San Diego, founded as a military post in 1602, is the second most populous city in California, after Los Angeles. Located in the southwestern corner of the state of California, and thus in the southwestern corner of the continental United States, San Diego is appreciated for its year round temperate climate, excellent beaches, and the country's largest urban park, Balboa Park. Beneath the modern skyline lies historic buildings in the Gaslamp quarter, as well as Old Town. Thanks to one of the world's great natural harbors, San Diego is home to the US naval fleet. San Diego is called "America's finest city" by its residents..

Emparcadero
The Embarcadero is home to the San Diego cruise ship terminal, the USS Midway museum ship at Navy Pier, the Star of India and seven other historic vessels belonging to the San Diego Maritime Museum, and various restaurants and shops from the North Embarcadero down through Seaport Village.             
Seaport Village
Seaport village was built on landfill over Punta de los Muertos (Spanish for Point of the Dead), where the Spanish expedition of 1782 bueried those who had died of scurvy. Bihind, is distinguished the bridge of Coronado
Star of India 
Star of India,  is the oldest active merchant sailing ship in the world (began her life November 14, 1863),  and the wonderful city of San Diego


Balboa Park
The nation's largest urban park, Balboa Park, covers an incredible 1,200 acres  land adjacent to downtown that houses 15 major museums more than 85 cultural organizations, the old Globe Theatre, beautiful gardens and the San Diego Zoo.

  4. I stopped in San Diego while on a Mexican Cruise. I made a fun discovery there that I think might be beneficial to others. At the harbor there is a maritime museum that has all kinds of interesting things. When I was there they had, among other things the ship that was used in the movie "Master and Commander" which was worth the price of admission. But I found out that for another five dollars they would throw in a boat tour of the harbor. It was a fun little tour and for the price you really couldn't beat it. The stand alone harbor tours cost several times that amount.
