Bikes and Transportation in Sweden

Many times I have heard from citizens that are living in countries (I would not say which ;) ) that the state doesn't have the bicycling culture and as a result it is very difficult to move with a bike there as everything make your life very difficult. In particular the absence of structures as the biking path or the unfriendly bike rules that doesn't allow you to carry your bike while you using within the public transportation.

All the above is expected from states (as I mentioned before) that doesn't have as first priority to develop the biking transportation or they don't care to do it as the transportation with vehicle dominates.

Hmm but recently I realized that there are some gaps in the "system" in countries as well that are very bike friendly and people use their bikes daily even if the weather is not so friendly. Lets make an assumption that you are living in south Sweden and you would like to move out to North.

From the SJ (train company) site I have found the following very interesting :

"Due to space reasons you are not allowed to bring your bike on the train. However, if the bike is foldable and you can carry it yourself as hand luggage, you may take it with you."

Many interesting questions are revealed from this I hope to you as well, why you don't solve the space reason ? And how you can travel by bike in the Whole Sweden if you can't carry the bike on the main train line which is crossing the whole country and connects the north with the south ?

Although there are exist some answers as those trains are fast trains and because of that the trains are smaller with limited space, but still the main question still remains.

What do you think about it ?
